Reader comment on item: Islam vs. Islamism (lecture)

Submitted by Melvin A. Fechter (United States), May 23, 2013 at 18:25

Please, Daniel. Their "cultural success" was largely expropriations from the culture of those they had conquered. "What went wrong?" Why did their advancing culture subside? Why, of course, because their conquering subsided and they were no longer able to expropriate from non-existing conquered.

Muslims achieved remarkable military, economic, and cultural success between roughly 600 and 1200 c.e.

No, Daniel, the concept of "Islamist" does not date back only to the 1920s; it is the original concept of Muhammad. It is the concept of "Moderate Islam" that dates back only to the 1920s, but you have permitted it to usurp the name and identify of "Islam" and to ascribe the new name "Islamist" to Muhammad's original concept.

Muhammad was a plain Muslim, not an Islamist, for the latter concept dates back only to the 1920s.

You are mistaken, Daniel. "Moderate Islam" is only "Radical Islam" in wait.

We understand that radical Islam is the problem and moderate Islam is the solution.
