Excellent Summary of Policy Recent Past and Possible Approaches to the Future

Reader comment on item: Obama Administration Middle East Policy: Amateur Hour

This discussion is valuable in clearing some of the confusion and myopia from the confused policies of the US and Western nations in relations with Islamic cultures. Many thanks to the organizers. This conversation is sorely needed, considering the truth in Dr. Pipes' observation of failure after failure of US policy.

I am nowhere near as expert as Dr. Pipes, however a few years of studying the cultures plus gaining direct experience of the region seems to have given me and my associates an understanding far more sophisticated than that of Obama and Kerry, Hagel and Brennan, whose minds have become so addled by their biases that their ability to act wisely is impaired. They are not the right people to be at the helm.

This is not rocket science although there are many complexities and historical events which must be learned to understand the region and the cultures, but let's remember - these leaders are supposed to be the experts and it is an indication of negligence of the American public in enabling these people to be holding the reins of power, legally elected or no. There should be a mechanism implemented where incompetent, unwise, naive or seditious leaders cannot force the US (and consequently the world) to have to endure the damage that a electing the wrong leaders can cause - 4-year elected term notwithstanding.
