Reader comment on item: Obama's Muslim Childhood
in response to reader comment: Islamic hypocrisy

Submitted by K.H. Ahmed (United States), Sep 18, 2012 at 19:23

First my ancestors were Turkish and were not suppressed as Hindu's. Second I do not approve of much of the cultural leakage that occurs in the practice of Islam. As to your question regarding circumcision it is not found in the Koran. One can find it in Hadith, but I would remind you that not all practitioners follow Hadith.

This is my objection to the authors position. He treats this particular faith unlike he would treat Christianity with it multiple versions of belief. Muslims too have a multiplicity of beliefs. My Turkish ancestors did and still do drink a very fine version of Raki. Some believe other forms of alcohol can be consumed if they are not made of grain. My objection is as a writer and an academic myself ...

Let me add while raised in the faith I do not practice. I tend towards Buddhist practices instinctually dislike formalized religion of any sort. However, objectivity and fairness are important to me ...
