Where are the conservatives?

Reader comment on item: Berlin Wall Fell, Obama Stays Away

Submitted by Wade Howard Barrier Capt. USMC (Ret. 1976) (United States), Dec 12, 2009 at 09:36

The true conservatives have been suffering from "shock and awe", adrift in a directionless anger only venting itself on the TV and the wife, who exclaimes, eventually, "shut up and do sompthing about it". Of course I'm describing my own past condition, past, because I'm reading "The Conservative mind" by Russell Kirk. and active in developing local support for the American Conservative Union.

I'm pushing the big 70, but in great shape, asking men who appear to be seasoned, "are you pleased with the direction your country is taking"? I've only found one who said "yes" and he departed to fast to ask him "why"?

My son and I have started a steering group, in a very wealthy priviate club in Ca. Held our first meeting last night. In attendance was a 96 year old retired Army Officer, WW2 vet. combat jumps into Europe, and keen of eye. Plays golf 2-3 times a week with his 80 year old friend. A retired Navy fighter pilot, over 100 missions over N.Viet who thanked me for penitrating his "I been there, payed my dues attitude". A prob 75 year old lady and president of her local Rep. womans club. A very successuful ret. insurance exucitive. My son is the superentendant of the clubs golf course and loved by all 800 members. The sphear of influence that is represented in this first meeting is beyone number. So I'm through shouting at the TV.

Time to quit pondering the problem. When you do get up, for some reason, doors start to pop open.

Lead, follow or get out of the way.

Semper Fi.
