The Comment by the so call "THe Historian" is full of the old stigma of "we did it", let's make it clear for once and for all, the overthrow of Mossadegha or of Allende in Chile, for that matter, could not be done without locals support. By saying "we" you are implying there was a CIA agent in every corner with a machine gun and that is not true and it missleading.
For years I had to listen to the "academia" throwing around their usual "west is guilty of everything" when the facts are coups and revolutions are done because there is enough local support to get rid of the government. By saying what you are saying you are only re-enforcing the "conspiracy" mind of the Middle East and for that matter the rest of the world. Take Allende for example he was heading for a finacial melt down so he was overthrown by Chileans sick and tired of their so call socialist heaven!!, Did the CIA did it? NO, did the CIA helped the coup with finacial support? YES, Could it be done without Chileans participating in it? NO.
It is time we start seeing things for what they are, countries are responsible for they own rises and falls, even if the CIA wanted to change anything they don' t the manpower or might and it is not possible to change an ounce without a significant local support.
Every time a so call "historian" claims "we did or we didn't" I cringe because what it means is a lack of understanding of how people behave or conduct themselves.
Every time I hear a "historian" making the sort of claims made here it reminds me of my times in the Dominican Republic where everything was either the fault of the Americans or the Spaniards!!
Cheers!
