Who's the real enemy?
Reader comment on item: Radical Islam vs. Academic Freedom: One Example

Submitted by Robert Unger (United States), Apr 29, 2002

It is good to see that people who interfered with Daniel Pipes' right to speak were themselves shown to be enemies of all who believe in free speech. Even more important, having myself heard Pipes speak and having read things Pipes has written, it is evident that those who attempted to stop Pipes' speech are either (or both) mistaken about Pipes' opinions or unhappy that Pipes is able to expose the dangers of extremist Muslims who have distorted Islam in furtherance of an ideological movement that promotes hate and seeks to destroy democracratic principles and the very liberty which permits Pipes' detractors to criticize him.

Pipes is not a "Muslim/Arab hater." Rather, he denounces miltant Muslims who kill those who disagree with militant Muslims' misguided cause. Indeed, I am confident that more Muslims than Christians or Jews have been killed because they have opposed militant Islam. If anyone doubts that, he or she need look no farther than Iran or Iraq.

Pipes is not opposed to Muslim people. He is opposed to an ideological movement which calls for the destruction of the United States and the most cherished values of Western culture.
