Reader comment on item: Abba Eban's Eloquence on Israel's 10th Anniversary

Submitted by Lame Cherry (United States), May 22, 2008 at 13:43

My first contact with Abba Eban was in a PBS series and Mr. Eban has proven the "home of the mount" in intellect. His process, while leftist is who leftists should be if they used their minds to process information like Begin would and like John Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey did.

Without laying a broad brush on "American Jews" or "Secular Jews" in the Israeli state, for some reason it seems the leftist Jews who actually experienced the trauma of World War II or the early wars always are grounded, while people like Mike Wallace to Rob Reiner and unfortunately at times like David Horowitz all seem guilt ridden in attacking the Israeli state or refusing in Mr. Horowitz's case to examine that people like Olmert are just as bad for the Israeli state as Bill Clinton was for the American state.

For some reason, a great portion of leftist American Jews and some right wing Jews have a discomfort in dealing with being spared horrid wars while others suffered and feel guilt in not living in Judea now shouldering the burden Jews there face. It would help immensely if they could separate themselves from this as they are great intellects, but just pointed in the wrong direction.

I dearly love like all Americans, Carl Reiner, as the gentleman he is. It is too bad that Mr. Wallace could not learn from his son, Chris, in dealing with life as Mr. Eban has.

Just because someone is "on one's side" in being "Jewish" by name does not mean they are good for long term policy as Olmert has proven no more than Barack Obama being an American means his policies will be good for America.

It is much appreciated that the notable Mr. Eban is still a titan of intellect as it has been disheartening watching the meanderings of the current secular leadership of Judea with Benjamin Netanyahu sitting more like an observer in the stands as Russian immigrants pour into Israel and are weakening it in being used as secular tools against American religious Jews with the European contingent led by Olmert cementing power.

A strong Israeli state is the best defense the entire Middle East has for peace and Judea is in dire need of Abba Eban to mentor it and to inspire Benjamin Netanyahu in his coming role in the elections.

I hope these two gentlemen will reach out to each other to build a Conservative state again as the current socialist order there is a disaster in supplying terrorists with missiles to drive religious Jews out.

Thank you for featuring Mr. Eban.........it is too bad that Mike Wallace was the interviewer as he has learned nothing from his latest failures in life.

God bless.
