I'm Impressed with Australia!
Reader comment on item: [Australia's] Crisis of illegal immigration

Submitted by Elena (United States), Dec 9, 2007 at 13:10

I think the US could learn a lot about "Immigration" from the Australian government. I agree with Australia's action in turning away the "boat people" seeking asylum specifically in Australia. The fact that the "boat people" threatened violence to the people that saved them when their boat was being ravaged by the ocean, if they did not transport them to Australia and not Indonesia, speaks volumes.

I also agree with Australia's policy of bringing Immigrants into the country that are beneficial to the country, and not the other way around like in the US. Also, I think Australia is smart in not offering benefits, social services and especially not citizenship to anyone that does not meet their requirement. It makes good economic sense. And in the long run it is a humane policy.

In the US, our citizens were paying more than 376 million to incarcerate Illegal criminals (2006), over 250 million dollars in emergency medical (2003) and 28.6 billion dollars annually to educate Illegal's children. The costs have all gone up since this data was made available. In other words, it is much higher now. They are not only taxing the American people to pay for the invaders (Illegal's), the American people, are also expected to accommodate their language and lower cultural norms. The Illegal's are destroying America. Our neighborhoods are full of violence and drugs. Graffiti written in Spanish is scribbled in various places…..like the sides of people's house that used to be very nice…before the invasion.

So, yes, Australia, I applaud you for your wisdom. Don't listen to International opinion if it differs from that which best serves your country and people.

God Bless Australia! May America benefit from your fine example!
