in response to reader comment: American (Battered) Woman and Her Children Receive Asylum in Europe

Submitted by mother (United States), Jun 3, 2007 at 17:57

i wish you the best of luck and good fortune, that you will remain protected by a government that has been just in your case, where your own country further abused you and your children when you were a victim. for you to now be considered a criminal from "justice" is ironic. no country, not even america, should be on a "white list".

each case for political asylum must be decided on an individual basis. there IS corruption within the american government, and without certain connections or money, it is not possible for some individuals, no matter how hard they may try, to obtain fair hearing and just decisions. your family was properly granted asylum and i hope your country (the netherlands) will not turn you away and will stay firm and be wiling to dend those they have given some protection to--whether it be by humanitarian aid or official asylum. you should NOT be required to return to the usa, or your children, unless the usa can provide written contractual agreements with the netherlands that you will not be prosecuted and no harm will be done. if the usa were willing to do this, they would not have "found" you and be asking for your return now. good luck. i hope to hear your family is safe.
