al-Qada' wa al-Qadr

Reader comment on item: Are Muslims Fatalists?
in response to reader comment: Predestination in Christianity vs. Islam

Predestination or al-Qada' wa al-Qadr v free choice as would be expected in Islam is not that simple.

The Qur'an is a strange text as you will find verses that advocate predestination but also verses that hint to free choice

What really matters is what the Ulama belived as we have no way of knowing if Allah is really pro free choice or he is pro predestination

There is no doubt that the doctrine of al-Qada' wa al-Qadr or predestination became a very fundamental Islamic doctrine and may be second in line following the doctrine of al-tawheed or the unity of Allah
