Stealth Islamists

Reader comment on item: UCLA's Embarrassment: Prof. Abou El Fadl

I heartily support your outing of stealth Islamists. I think they are the propagandists - fifth columnists even. I would question your use of such an unattractive photo - he is bald and obese - enough already! That said, it is interesting that there are so many moderate Muslim voices who turn out to be extreme. So many in the West apparently desperately need to hear moderate voices that many Islamists volunteer to accept the projection so unmasking them is a public service. I particularly like your owning that you are at war with them. Me too.

But I was heartened this week by Egyptian President al Sisi's speech on New Years Day making a strong stand against extremist thinking. I too could be grasping at straws, so I hope you will take a closer look at al Sisi to see if his departure from capitulation to Islamism is genuine or significant.

I plan to write about Sisi's speech shortly.
