Point vs. Position

Reader comment on item: The Forcible Removal of Israelis from Gaza

Submitted by Martin (United States), Apr 11, 2005 at 20:25

I clearly understand your point, but you have not stated your final position.

I agree that the uprooting is unprecedented. Fine.

But, the next item is to move on to your position--agree with it or not? And what is your defense of your position. It is Pipes' position and the reason he holds it that I want to hear.

I take it your position is "Its Folly". I agree with all you wrote about "Sharon's Folly"

My question is What would you do about it? What do you recommend Sharon do if you were his advisor?

I do not like the Gaza pull-out. But I don't know if Israel has the guts --or desire--to annex it.

Of all the things that Israel can conceivably do in Gaza or the West Bank, is the Gaza withdrawal the one act for which Israel would have the least regret in the future?

Daniel Pipes replies:

I have written many times that Israel must win, not try to find some fancy way to avoid the hard and unpleasant business of winning, as it is now doing.
