Reader comment on item: [Khobar Rampage:] "Don't Be Afraid, We Won't Kill Muslims"

Submitted by Dennis Murphy (United States), Jun 8, 2004 at 12:39

Dear Mr. Pipes,

Being an avid reader of your articles since 9/11, I was shocked and surprised by my reaction to this article. Let me be as brief as I can be as to why I refuse to take your advice.

I am a Catholic and I would rather die reciting the Lords Prayer than live pretending to be a Muslim to save my skin.

I understand it may be easy to say that without a gun pointed at my head now. And the chances of me being in any Muslim country are slim to none. But I pray that I am able to meet my maker without having to try and hide my beliefs.

In closing, I have been asked many years ago what I would do in Northern Ireland had I been lined up against a wall and everybody who was saying they were Catholic was being shot. My answer was then, is now and, hopefully the Lord forbid, in times of dire consequences will be, "I am Catholic!"
