Reader comment on item: Islamists and the Left Working Together in Muslim-majority Countries

Some Islamists might have occasionally condemned Communists as Godless people. But, that has not stopped either side from drawing support of the other. Prior to the Partition of India, the spiritual father of Pakistan Sir Muhmmad Iqbal said that Islam is Communism plus God! At the risk of being over simplification of the symbiotic relationship bewteen the two, this maxim spells the Muslim view of Communism in general. According to Lenin, there is nothing wrong in drawing support from such "useful idiots" such as Islamists so long as it serves the Communist agenda.

In fact, the nexus between Islam and Communism need not surprise anyone who even knows the history of the two ideologies superficially. Both are authoritarian ideologies. Both have a prophet (Mohammed and Karl Marx) and a holy book (Koran and Das Kapital). Both believe in violence to spread their ideologies. Both creeds believe is eliminating their enemies, that is, physically! Communism, in its relatively short history is no less guilty than Islam when it comes to mass murders and genocide. In fact, Stalin and Mao caught up with Islam's numbers of killings quite swiftly and within a few decades! Number of people killed by the communists in their revolutions, purges etc merits respectable comparision with the killings by Islamists during the past fourteen hundred years.

In India, the leftist parties are the most ardent supporters of Muslim communalism. Since mid-eighties until now, the Communists have stood by Muslim communalism through thick and thin. The reason is that both Islamists and Communists perceive Hinduism as their enemy. In India, the communist adoration of Islam started with the India's pioneer Communist Manavendra Nath Roy, aka, Narendranath Bhattacharya of West Bengal. He wrote a adulative book about Islam's contribution to relieve the masses from the oppression of Hinduism. His book is in f act, the foundation of what passes for secularism in India, which is same as minority communalism.
