What is the punishment for high treason in the US?

In Reynolds´s case: Al-Qaeda being an organization that openly and consciously committed genocide againt the US, what was his punishment? It would be interesting to know!
Another question is if a person who does not agree with the political system of his country has the right to harm or sabotage it. It seems that socialists who preach world-peace do not hesitate to revert to violent methods even if they live in a democratic country that allows them optimal freedom?
A final question: isn´t socialism a philosophical-political doctrine that went bankrupt some 30 years ago?
