It's not for us, Americans who live, perhaps with anti-Semitism, but yet live, in physical safety to presume to advise any Israeli how to live with dangers.

But recalling history, how sombre your warnings.

We prayed, in our synagogues, at our homes - and, most recently at our AIPAC Washington Convention in early June, for these young soldiers' safe return. And now to learn all this time, to the unbelievable anguish for their families and friends, they had not survived.

The horror is beyond explanation, and yet in The Chicago Tribune (probably elsewhere as well) I read the blogs - about how all this was 'deserved' - 'meant to be' - only stated in the most vulger of terms.

And the Christian savior pleads, in extremis, '...oh why hast thou forsaken me?' Might we do the same.

And, perhaps there will be retribution. Is Mossad still operating?
