If USA, UK and other western powers wish to be trusted, and even supported, in their war on terror by a larger number of non-western people, and even by moderate Muslims, I believe they should stop their support for dictatorial regimes all over the world.
As a Kabylian man living in Algeria and suffering from the Algerian political regime's oppression, I find it very dishonest that the above-mentioned superpowers do not use their influence to force the Algerian authorities to respect human rights in Algeria. The DRS is still kidnapping, torturing and killing; the authorities are still cheating in pollings; the whole Algerian people is being impoverished; the minorities are denied their most basic rights, and the western democracies keep silent, and worse still, continue to have business dealings with the most bloodthirsty dictatorship in the world: Algerian regime.
So, as a conclusion, USA, UK, etc., should first contribute sincerely in the war against dictatorship that lead many people, especially minorities, in their own countries, then declare war on terrorism, either islamist or non-islamist. This is the only way to get all people involved in the war against terrorism. Otherwise, all that is done by western powers is nothing but a wasted effort.
