The ghosts of the SommeReader comment on item: Islamists Threaten Civil War in Great Britain – A Smart Idea? Submitted by David W. Lincoln (Canada), Sep 26, 2006 at 16:15 I forgot to pose one question in my earlier post. Is Europe, both old and new, still haunted by the ghosts of the Somme? For, as near as I can recon (thereby making myself subject to possible correction) the world which was introduced via the industrial revolution came to an end when the last soldier left the battle of the Somme in the first world war. Since then, some things have changed, but others have not. So, I stick by my question: are those Europeans who are counselling a soft line towards Iran, are they still haunted by the Ghosts of the Somme? Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
