What do Islamists THINK and what THEIR VIEW as an individual

How come when islamic apologists are confronted with something negative, they immediately pull their Quran and quote a verse, "according to 11.11 something, so and so cannot be done" etc.

What do those islamic apologists THINK as a human being? What is THEIR view vs Islamic view? This distinction is important when considering immigration from Islamic countries because it will demonstrate if they are going to uphold US Constitution rathen than islamic injunction on a given subject.
