Bedouins in the IDF
Reader comment on item: Arafat’s Suicide Factory

Submitted by Marc Tretin (United States), Nov 26, 2002 at 22:20

It seems to me that a significant number of Bedouins fight for Israel in the desert patrol unit or border police. They are also used as trackers.

Would it be possible for some of the Bedouin who speak English, to be "loaned" to the United States to be trained as translators or even for intelligence?

The only time I feel some hope for peace in the middle east is when I hear of Druze or Bedouin soldiers in the IDF. Is there any charity to help veteran Bedouins or provide inducement for young Bedouins to enlist?
