Dear Tziona:

It is actually highly unlikely that he will be/was forced to convert to Islam. Since he is not a pagan or atheist, forcibly converting him would go against mainstream Islamic Shari'a. This is where the Qur'an's dictum, "Laa 'ikhraa fid-deeni" ("there is no compulsion in religion"-2:256), is applied.
