I unreservedly support the nomination of Dr. Pipes to the U.S.I.P. board, notwithstanding serious differences I have with him on certain topics. I consider controversy to be useful at U.S.I.P., where I was a research assistant in 1988, and with whose representatives I have often dealt regarding issues in Balkan Islam. I am a Muslim of the Sunni-Hanafi tradition, and not Shia.
