Reader comment on item: Throwing out the [Arab-Israeli] Rulebook

Submitted by everlong (United States), Jul 1, 2003 at 17:58

There already are two states living side by side, one Palestinian and one Jewish. Jordan is a palestinian state in all but name. It's residents are 70% Palesitinian (though its leaders are not) and was formerly part of the Palestine region before Jordanian and Israeli borders were demarcated. Back then there was no concept of a "Palestinian" as an indivdual or political identity (actually the Jews were once called the Palestinians and the PLO are certainly not Jewish), but if there is such a thing then surely you would call it Jordanian (and the Jordanians have called themselves thus many times). From 1948 till the 6 day war the west bank was controlled by Jordan and we didn't hear one peep about an occupied Palestinian state, because the Arabs never considered themselves as anything but Arabs (but certainly not Palestinian).

To resolve this issue, why not just change the name of Jordan to Palestine, keep the exact borders that we have now, kick the PLO out of Israel and let the Jordanian monarchy fight it out with the PLO for control of the "Palestinians'.
But to pretend that Jordan is not a Palestinian state already and declaring that the Palestinians need a state of their own is just laughable, dangerously so. When we accede to terrorists and evil bullies at the expense of democracy and build the solution on a lie because of political correctness we are only dooming ourselves to failure. This land dispute was resolved almost half century ago. The arabs got a part of the region and the Jews got a part of the region (the arabs getting the greater part). The christians were given the shaft entirely, but we'll leave that aside. It's only because of Muslim (and Europes to a smaller extent) antisemitism and intolerance that this continues indefinitely. The world must stop scapegoating the Jew and must start telling a little truth. Abbas was a terrorist himself, he is no moderate. Hamas military and civil wing are one and the same and Jordan is THE Palestinian state.
