Middle East dream'n!

Reader comment on item: Throwing out the [Arab-Israeli] Rulebook

Submitted by Sheerahkahn (United States), Jun 17, 2003 at 16:55

I hate to be Eeyore, but someone has to say it, "It'll never work!"

The Palestinians have defined themselves culturally, and sociologically as "anti-Israel" for the past fifty-four years, and then overnight we expect them to change?

Islam has defined itself for the past fifteen hundred years as being the "Superior" religion to Judaism, and we expect that to change overnight?

In the past fifty-four years, the Middle-East has erupted with five "hot" wars against Israel, and the last twenty years being a high-intensity "cold-war", and you expect this just to cease with the scribbling of pens on paper?

With the Arab world blaming Israel for every concievable problem that they have brought upon themselves for the past fifty-four years, you seriously think that a piece of paper called "peace" is going to be considered viable currency with anyone in that region?

Does anyone else see Neville Chamberlain getting off the airplane, here?

Come on Dr. Pipes, you're a historian of the Middle East, when was the last time the Arab world had a quiet five-year period?

The whole region defines itself by how much they hate Israel. Any peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians will last as long as it takes the ink to dry on the paper.

It's all Middle East dream'n!
