The historical evidence that I know is that neither Gamal Abd al-Nasser nor Israel did want to start a war. As for the Soviet Union, I also believe that the leadership had no desire to see a war between the Arabs and Israel. I suspect that the Soviet leadership realized that they will have to come up with the weapons and money that the Arabs will need for such war, and that was indeed the reason why they did not wish to see a war starting between the Arabs and Israel. The Soviets knew that the Arabs will lose such a war and they were not surprised that the likes of Abd al-Hakeem Amer, who was in charge of the Egytpian Army, was just plain clueless.
And I do not buy this story of the "atomic bomb" It is just too simplistic and I suspect that the Russians and they were indeed very pragmatic, would have seen such an atomic bomb as a deterent to the likes of Nasser and the inept Abd al-Hakeem Amer and they would have told Israel to go ahead and develop an atomic bomb. There was just no reason for the Russians to attack Dimona or start a war that would cost them lots of money.
And I'm curious to know who are Isabella Ginor and Gideon Remez? Are they historians?I doubt it. I have never heard of them and I do not believe what they are saying. However, I must admit that i have not read the book. I will be reading this book and maybe I will change my mind, but until then, I do not believe them
