Double standard with regard to Catholics

I've had many friends that are catholics. I think the Catholic church, as an organization, as presently constituted, is a good organization that has a positive effect on the world on the balance. I also think that even the most die-hard catholic would admit that there have been problems in the past.

Now, if we were to see the Catholic church 'devolving' back to the middle ages. If we were to hear the Pope insisting that he approve all the leaders of nations. If we were to start hearing angry talk from high-ranking catholic bishops about witches and heretics, I think we we would be all asking very similar questions about catholicism as those we are now trying to ask about Islam. And we would be right to do so.

Also, I'm not aware of the catholic-Hitler link you claim here. Can you provide references to back that up?
I understood Hitler was actually a follower of some sort of really bizarre other-worldy mysticism that was intertwined with his 'master race' theory.
