Clashes of Interest?Reader comment on item: Combating the Ideology of Radical Islam Submitted by Matt Murray (United States), Apr 16, 2003 at 17:32 I would like to make a few comments to Mr. Fuller. I believe you are right in most of your analysis. Islam seems to me to be more than just a religion. It seems to be more like a culture. I have traveled extensively through the middle east and the only way to persuade muslims to change is to go to these leaders and basically tell them to stop stoking the fires of anti-americanism and anti-jeudism or else!Living in the area I realized long ago there is nothing the US can do to improve its image in the middle east. We have tried in the past to work with the extremists but after 9/11 we know how that worked out. I honestly disagree with you when you said Bush should not go after states who will not address the extremist issues. I also believe that many muslims go by the belief that "whatever happens, happened because God made it so." Why not bomb the states that have terrorist ties then? If Osama dies, oh well it was meant to be. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
