Okay, First off,
Michel is right in that you really dont know Muslims until you know Muslims. I know a lot of Muslims in my city and most all are very nice upstanding people. I have met some who are comparably not upsatnding, but in no way supporting of terrorism, and in no way violent or repressive towards there wife or children.
I know NOT one Muslim man who is married to two women.
I would like to clear this up.
Most Muslims believe that because MUST be able to treat both wives fairly, that polygamy is UNACCEPTABLE because no ordinary man can treat two people COMPLETELY EQUALLY. The prophet was not an ordinary man.
Also, my community has met with many many interfaith groups, and routinely does community service.
Muslims are really very nice people for the most part, and I reiterate that I know Muslims who would make anyone wish to be a 10th as good a person as them.
I believe that most people around the world believe in the prosperity of the Islamic religion, and those on these forums are the "Bill Kristols", and the "Pat Robertsons" of the world. I would also like to state that I am not meaning to slight these men, because I am sure they know what they are talking about a lot more than DHIMMI, SUSAN, PLATO, or JALADHI.
On the other hand, Pat Robertson is about as intolerant as any Muslim that has been pointed out on this board, be it the Taliban or whatnot.
To michel: Do not worry, these are the extremes, the hallmark of being an extremist is to either destroy or condemn the middle ground. That is what the terrorists do, and that is what those ...do routinely, to deny a middle ground, to make it US vs THEM, to make it seem as if no one can try to mediate, and if you do, youre a collaborator.
TO Plato (mainly) and kinda also dhimmi and susan.
I think that you (plato) are a man ( or woman) of a reasonable intellect. While I do not approve of your views, I believe that you do handle things in a very decisive and intellectual manner. You at least approach things with a logical manner, as you at least demand and provide evidence. I think that, as the "brightest" member of the "Legion of Doom" ( yes thats you're guys new name, dhimmi, plato, susan and jaladhi), you should accept Michels offer or at least then accept that he is Jewish, not Pakistani. I also would extend this offer to dhimmi and susan, but they are more interested in a rhetoric war than in a debate.
ALSO, TO MICHEL: If you really are Jewish ( and I have no reason to doubt you), I would like to thank you for you reason and intellect, and defense of middle ground, i probably do not agree with you on all issues, (such as the occupation of palestine), but you give great credibility to my statement that Jews, Muslims, and Christians are people of the book. Addditionally, I would appreciate that you are at least not being offensive, and in fact trying to be constructive.
