$50 MILLION TO CAIR FROM SAUDI PRINCE WALID bin TALAL
Reader comment on item: CAIR's Los Angeles Fundraiser

In yesterday's (Feb. 22, 2007) Marty Peretz blog - www.tnr.com/blog/spine -- under "Not Very Charitable," the following was posted:

[Note - Saudi Prince Walid bin Talal had offered $10 Million to NYC after 9-11 which Rudy Guiliani turned down.]

"....According to Farid Ghadry, moderate and modernizing Sunni oppositionist to the Assad tyranny in Syria, has sent out an e-mail to friends ....

"Saudi Prince Walid bin Talal is giving CAIR $50 Million to influence and organize American Muslims under a Wahabbi umbrella organization. This is very dangerous for American Muslims and for America .... I urge you to press the U.S. Congress to pass a new law, or to amend the Patriot Act, requiring that all Islamist organizations in the U.S. be subject to new rules ...."

Marty Peretz then says that the First Amendment prohibits limiting individual contributions to political organizations, which would include foreigners, and then he continues on a bit.

It looks like we need some "special case" new laws. This is the first time we've been confronted by a politicized religion, so something has to change -- and soon.

The President, Congress, the FBI and CIA have to get a better understanding here. It's over six years since 9-11, and our government still hasn't been able to sort out what it is, exactly, that is threatening our country, except in the most general terms.

So far they have only engaged with the "terrorism" threat -- whether actual plots or funding and support. And on that level, for some odd reason they are ignoring the fact that several leaders and members of CAIR have been indicted and convicted. While perhaps they don't have "proof," surely suspicion of the organization is in order. Why the buddy-buddy act? Do they still, after all these years, expect that CAIR will cooperate and give them "information" on terrorist activity?

But it isn't enough to only concentrate on Terrorism. They have to look at how Sharia law is gradually but surely encroaching into and eroding the democratic laws of Europe. It is unacceptable that this even become a debatable issue in the US. They haven't yet explored the dangers of pro-Islamist "propaganda" which parades around under the disguise of our cherished "civil rights."

Use of the term "Islamophobia" should be discredited for the phony that it is. Islamists have been attacking our country for years. It's no phobia and it isn't racist -- it's based on the purely rational. It should be replaced by something better -- how about Islamist-wise -- or Islamist-aware -- or Islamist-wary?
