Ianus...Reader comment on item: The 751 No-Go Zones of France Submitted by J.S. (Canada), Nov 28, 2006 at 18:15 I am most sorry to hear of what is happening in Sweden! I fear the same could spread to Canada. I think it is one of the ways in which Islam undermines democracy. Dr. Pipes posted an article after the "elections" in Iraq -- apparently, virtually everyone in Iraq simply voted as they were told or they voted along tribal affliation (the "voting" was more of a tribal demographic poll than an "election" in the Western sense.) I read that the same thing happened with the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress -- they went to the mosques and told the Muslims who to vote for... A few weeks ago I came across a Podcast on the Internet (through some university introductory Philosophy course) -- and the Podcast featured an essay written by Immanuel Kant, entitled: "What is Enlightenment?" In this essay Kant stressed the need for citizens to think for themselves -- and not allow others to do their thinking for them. He advised that people should never allow "entrenched Guardians" (religious leaders, state rulers, etc) to think for you. Only if we are free to use our own reason will men "gradually rise above Barbarism!" And that was said hundreds of years ago. If only Islam could produce independent thinkers! But wouldn't that go against one of the core precepts of Islam? (From what I understand, Islam mandates that everyone must think alike.) Such sheep-like followers does not bode well for the West.
