The pope, the apology, the consequence

Reader comment on item: Should the Pope have apologized?

Submitted by Ianus (Poland), Nov 24, 2006 at 13:09

I feel sorry , but I have to say that in my opinion the pope is a ... coward. The right was on his side. The history was on his side, the memory of the innumerable victims of Islamic terror in the East begged his steadfastness and uprightness. But instead he failed all of it in order to appease the Moslem blackguards worldwide. Thus he has lost all credibility in my eyes. One more spineless bureaucrat .

Anyone with a most basic knowledge of Byzantine (i.e. Eastern Roman) history could easily confirm the common experience expressed by the emperor Manuel. The emperor - contrary to so many commentators nowadays - knew all too well what he was talking about ! Was it Buddhist or Confucian invaders and their scholars at the end of the 14th century that were on the verge of conquering and enslaving of the miserable remains of once such a glorious empire ? Islam had always been (and still is) the mortal enemy of Eastern Christianity and the fall of Byzantium with the city of Constantinople the most tragic event in recent European history ( with the genocide of the Christian populations in Asia Minor -Armenians and Greeks- in the twentieth century as its modern counterpart).

Unless Moslems apoplogize for what evil their own religion has done unto the non-Muslim world , not a single person ( be it the pope or God ) has a right to apologize to any Moselm. ( Anyway I can't recall a single instance where a Moslem has apologized to a non Moslem. If someone knows it, let him inform me at once!) If he does he is illoyal and forgetful and enters upon a very perilous path. The holy name of Constantinople and all it stood for for more than 1000 years obliges to much more than the cowradly opportunism the pope seems to adhere to. ( I find the policitical reasons for his apology highly dubious and counterproductive.)

The first step is to apologize , the next will be to convert . I wouldn't be surprised if one day some official organ close to the Vatican annonced that the pope converted to Islam. If the Holy Father really respects Islam so deeply and sincerely ( in plain text - prefers to ignore the history of the religion he himslef in part incorporates or anything that contradicts the official optimistic theory of the "religion of peace") , so why not follow in his 'infallible' predecessor's footsteps and kiss the Quran in front of TV cameras, embrace fanatic imams, support mosque building activities in Europe ?... And perhaps one day convert and go on a hajj to Saudi Arabia ? That would be an apt and worthy end to the Vatican and its tortuous and insincere policy that sooner or later will turn against its sponsors.

Impossible and impious suggestion ? Why ? I can't imagine a better and simpler way of appeasing angry Moslems worldwide. Instead of useless endless apopologies, burnt effigies, demolished property and lost lives , a former pope , now a Moslem who never apologizes and commands the respect and credulity of the Moslem masses. I sense all the top people including the pope are now so eager to bring about is to appease aggressive, hating Moslems. The pope as a Moslem would be the best way to avoid eruption of more Muslim rage, wouldn't it ?
