Carter - nice man, humanitarian, but too soft as US PresidentReader comment on item: Ahmadinejad - Hostage Taker? Submitted by Trebor (United States), Nov 16, 2006 at 01:14 Daniel Pipes - he understands that the last holdout against the Progress of Western Civilization is Islam. Had Carter stood up to Iran & the Ayatollah, instead of letting them hold US hostages for 444 days or so, we probably would not have this Nuclear confrontation with reactionary Iran. Yes, installing & keeping the Shah as "king" was a mistake. But that was the Cold-War. But Carter's Policy is a disaster the world now suffers from. The problem is that Islam cultures still cannot produce DEMOCRACIES--only DICTATORSHIPS or THEOCRACIES. How many centuries must Moslims pass-over before they produce a democracy--or even abolish PROHIBITION. Will it ever be possible for a Western tourist to sit in an outdoor cafe & sip a glass of wine while watching the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia? And we have seen Movies of Moses and Jesus. Why can't we watch a beautiful film about the life of the Prophet Mohammed? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
