Goals according to Bush + BEWARE OF SPIN!

Reader comment on item: Tempering Ambitions [in Iraq]

Submitted by MelM (United States), Nov 13, 2006 at 18:48

Bush's goal per Tony Snow: "Our goal and a key to our security at home: to help Iraq sustain, govern and defend itself, and emerge as a key ally in the war on terror."

Just about anything except a country of warlords would fit the "sustain, govern, and defend itself" part of this goal--even North Korea or Iran. The "key ally in the war on terror" part is a joke best left for Cox & Forkum. Notice that there is no "freedom" in this at all and no "model of freedom for the ME." I don't even see how we can avoid a "new model ot tyranny in the ME."

Secondly, I don't want to see a pile of spin developed to hide a lethal--and probably catastrophic--failure from the American people. If they buy a delusion of success, then they will be unable to insist on further action.

Anyway, who is going to buy "It can contrast Iraq today with yesteryear's totalitarian model rather than a potential ideal. It can distance itself from Iraq's fate by reminding the world that Iraqis are responsible for shaping their destiny." except some Republicans? Beware of spin!
