After listening to Yusuf's talks and teachings for scores of hours, I have to say that I would feel a great measure of guilt at labeling him an extremist. Especially when there are real extremists which he constantly helps to fight. When he denounced anti-semitic rhetoric at an ISNA conference, there was thunderous applause. When he told his audience that muslims should ask themselves, how did *they* participate in the drawings of cartoons of Muhammad, there was audible acceptance in the room.
I'm having a hard time figuring out how he could be singled out as dangerous except by a pathological or at best egotistical need to prove a theory about muslims in general, the evidence of which quickly dwindles at objective research into the real history and nature of the religion. This blog about Yusuf represents for me a festering sore of irrationality in what I thought was an earnest attempt to guard against the propagation of violent forms of Islam.
