Reader comment on item: Non-Muslims Who Fast During Ramadan
in response to reader comment: Which God?

Lactantius Jr. -- Considering her self-identification, it would be the one who wants you dead.

I think the thing that angers me most about comments like that is that they are made with the following assumption

1. 'Al-Qaeda and Others' necessarily represent the religion of Islam. You and I both know that is ridiculous. If you have interacted with Muslims in the west or even Muslims in Muslim countries who do not conform to the ideologies of extremist groups you would realize that there is no basis in Islam for the actions of these groups.

For example, I'm sure you've heard the quote from the Qur'an - 'If you take one innocent life, its as if you have taken the life of all of humanity.' To debunk any claim from extremist groups and from individuals who claim that those groups represent Islam one can simply read the above verse and realize that thier actions are contrary to Islam

There are in the neighborhood of 1 billion Muslims in the world. I don't know what the current 'membership' or 'enrollment' in Al-Qaeda is, but I can assure you it is a miniscule percentage of 1 billion. But, as you and I know what Al-Qaeda does is much more news worthy then individuals who work for Islamic Relief who donate thier time and money to help Hurrican Katrina victims.

All I ask is that you reflect a little bit before making a statement like ' Considering her self-identification, it would be the one who wants you dead.'
