I will try to be fair to the British

in response to reader comment: The failure of multiculturism

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Oct 13, 2006 at 02:30

Holland- another tolerant society- has had more issues with Muslims than Britain. Theo Van Gogh, Pim Fortuyn, etc. The nation which invented multi-culturalism- Canada- is about to allow Sharia to be adopted in one of its provinces.

Now, Britain is just a very extreme example of multi-culturalism. The 'problem' is shared by all western democracies. Of course, you are free to practice your religion etc etc, but bigamy is illegal...........liberalism is full of contradictions. Would Islamists, homosexuals, and feminists agree on anything? This post is about Britain. We could talk about my country, which also has a population of 1.000.000 or more Muslims. Multiculturalism is a good system, because there are no options. Society is mixed, and multiculturalism prevents the risk of ethnic conflict or civil war. Therefore, multiculturalism prevents a Bosnian-style civil war. However, in my opinion, it will be very difficult for Muslims to integrate into western society. This is not racism, it is just common sense.
