Reader comment on item: Moshe Sharon Explains Middle Eastern Realities

Submitted by Infidel (Canada), Oct 7, 2006 at 22:56

Dr. Pipes, you state that; "in the first place, there was increasing Muslim acceptance (however grudging) of Israel during the period 1948-93".
How was this "Muslim acceptance" expressed, considering that Muslims attacked Israel in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973, and attacks on Israel continue to this day?

You also state; "there are plenty of instances where Muslims lost territories and (again, grudgingly) came to terms with these realities". Surely, you must know that Muslims haven't forgotten the loss and live for and believe that day is coming when they will take back the lost territories as well as the entire land of Israel.

Volume 9, Book 85, Number 77
"You should Know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to exile you from this land, so whoever among you owns some property, can sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle."

The Muslim belief in the Qur'an and Sunnah should not be equated to the limited Jewish population that believe the Torah and the infinitesimal number of Christians that believe every word of the Bible.

Daniel Pipes replies:

The Muslim acceptance of Israel was indisputably greater in 1993 than in 1948, in large part because of the many wars lost
