Dear Professor Pipes,
The behavior you have described in this article can be explained as follows:
1.There is no limit to human greed. This factor affects a section of American leadership.
2.There is something basically wrong with Amercanism which preaches and promotes unbriddled materialism, leading to criminal waste of materials.
3. The study of Hindu philosophy may bring out a solution.
