European empathy &eloquent missives of "We share your Pain" tripe immediately post 9/11 represents the basest "Better you than me" reflex Europeans have to offer.

These so called 'systems' Dr.Pipes attempts to delineate are window dressing for the 'biochemistry' of national organizing entities-access to markets.

The United States rebuilt Europe first because it was good for the United States; Europe continues to appease horrific regimes in the Middle East because it is good for Europe to do so -- good for its exports and good for Europeans; U.S. Corporations bolstered by the psychophantic,obsequious droppings endlessly flowing from Foggy Bottom operatives manoeuvering for spots on the Saudi dole post foreign service careers and driven by the credo of 'greed is good' whitewash Saudi complicity in global crimes of monumental proportions.

The pre-occupation with the scale of Anti-Americanism worldwide is about as important to the fundamental nature & motives of Nation states as are the braying of NYT editorialists arguing for appeasement.

Bottom line-It's the markets.
