To commenter, "RE: Saddam Hussein/Islamic fundamentalism"
Reader comment on item: Brent Scowcroft is Wrong: We Must Attack Saddam

I agree with your sentiments, but disagree with your tactics. There is only one man who can liquidate Islamic fundamentalism in less that 12 months, and that's Saddam Hussein.

He would do anything to survive and unlike the fundamentalists he is in no hurry to go to heaven. We should find a way to strike a deal with him that's workable, and make sure he never has weapons of mass destruction, and in exchange give him all the conventional weapons he requires to conquer the Arab World (which is almost beyond redemption). He could then use his basic instincts to silence the Islamists (with whom he has nothing in common). That way we use a Muslim to solve an Islamic problem; someone whom the Muslims around the world have warned us not to attack. Believe it or not, he might even manage to cultivate them and bring them to the 21st century. We can use this psychopath to do in less than 12 months what could take us 50 years.

I am sure it is workable. Please consider my suggestion.
