Fundamentalist Christianity???

Reader comment on item: Europe vs. America

Submitted by Matthew Schiros (United States), Jan 14, 2003 at 11:35

That's the funny thing about America. See, built into our governmental structure is this bit that forbids a connection between religion and politics. You sound like the people who claimed that, when Kennedy was elected, that he'd be getting his orders from Rome. To be sure, there IS a Christian influence on our culture, system of law, etc... I mean, I know that things like "Don't kill anyone", and "Philanthropy is a nice thing" and "Don't steal" are basic to Christianity, but they're hardly FUNDAMENTALIST views...

I've been going to Church for 20 years now. I've NEVER heard ANYONE say that "Europe is the Anti-Christ". I don't think they are. I don't think ANYONE thinks they are. I DO think that they're whiny little children who want to be independant, and kick us in the shins whenever they can, but still want us to protect them because they've got a long tradition of getting beaten up by any 2 bit dictator.
The difference between Europe and America is that, amazingly enough, we tend to stand up for what we believe in, and we have very strong ideals, while the Europeans fall over for the first group of terrorist immigrants they let into the country.
