Religious 'fundamentalism' is an American phenomenon

The cultural element which makes North America different from Europe is Christian fundamentalism. This is a cultural issue, not an institutional one. Millions of Americans - Baptists, Pentecostals, Methodists (like George W. Bush), 'Born-Again' Christians, Evangelicals - were brought up to believe, that, in accordance with sermons by Hal Lindsey, Dave Wilkerson, Tim La Haye, Pat Robertson (and countless other preachers), 'Europe is Antichrist'! This thing has been studied or mentioned in passing - by Boyer, Strozier, Wills, McGinn, and myself.
