Deprive Saudi Arabia of its principal strength

Reader comment on item: The Scandal of U.S.-Saudi Relations

Submitted by Boris Epstein (United States), Jan 13, 2003 at 18:17

It is clear that the principal pressure tool the Saudis use to make US officials tow the line is money. And that money comes in the form of petro-dollars, paid primarily by the Americans and Europeans. So, to address the issue at the core we need to decrease the flow of petro-dollars to the Saudis to the minimum and thus turn the Saudi Arabia into what it truly is,- a backwards and impotent state. To achieve that goal, we,- the Westerners,- need to declare conversion to alternate fuels our defense priority and make a truly aggressive effort in that direction.
