to ahmad zafireReader comment on item: Nike and 9/11 Submitted by gary (United States), Sep 17, 2006 at 17:20 ahmad, there are several reasons why we dont use domestic oil. first of all, ecologists have all but handcuffed the oil industries ability to drill for new oil sources. next, there hasnt been a new oil refinery built in this country for years so even if we could pump the oil we couldnt refine it. third, our president is in bed with the saudi royal family and sometimes it seems that its more important to protect their profits than protect the welfare of the american people. but i agree with you fully although i would add this caviat. if half of the importance that is put on oil was put on developing alternative fuel sources i believe we are only a decade away from oil independence. but of course that would hurt the bush and cheney family bottom lines so dont expect any movement in this area for at least the next two and a half years. thank you Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
