Most of the "rational discussions" that I read are intellectual constructs that have no basis reality. You know, the reality that the Sun is hot. Having traveled to or lived in 45 countries, experience has shown me that we had better take the rhetoric of cultural leaders seriously. They mean what they say. In the U.S. we have become so divorced from reality that we have replaced it with the theory of college professors. It's also interesting to note that equally qualified scholars tend to take opposite positions on any issue. Reality thinking, or status seeking? You decide. I watched the process while getting two degrees and over the last thirty years and I believe that the best thing that could happen to American education is the abolution of tenure.
