I am not sure that it is actually as rare for members of Hamas to self-criticize as some people claim. To the contrary, the official and semi-official newspapers of Hamas quite routinely express disappointment with decisions by the party or by regional governments (including those that support Hamas, like Syria). If you can ignore the jew-hating, Hamas intellectuals are usually a lot more interesting and original than their "secular" counterparts. In my estimation, Fatah is actually more authoritarian in orientation than Hamas (though, of course, no one should bear any illusions about Hamas being interested in liberal democracy).
