I think there is a problem with the comparison between the Kennedy assassinologists and 9/11 conspiracy buffs. The American government didn't have to do anything about the Kennedy assassination as it was not a matter of deliberate policy on anyone's part to fund Oswald to assassinate Kennedy. The Kennedy assassination therefore was not part of the argument for an important piece of foreign policy, but 9/11 is part of the argument for the War on Islamism.
People who believe some 9/11 conspiracy theory will presumably vote for parties that don't favour the war, like the Democrats. Perhaps the 9/11 conspiracy buffs are in the group that would already vote for parties that don't favour the war, in which case they aren't a problem as far as getting the right foreign policy is concerned, but what if they're not?
