It looks like you have not had even a cursory knowledge of how Islam was born or propogated. Prophet Mohammed indulged in all crimes like individual assasinations, deception, ethnic cleansing, gross indecency, looting and what not to spread his ideas and gain personal power. In his personal life, he was a sex maniac and he cynically used religion to further his political and sex conquests. He has put his stamp on the way Muslims look at the world and behave in the world. Jihadists are not an aberration of Islam, but a norm within Islam. While normally we don't have to bother ourselves with what some tribal leader did 1400 years back in Arabia, the present day Muslims are behaving on a a script laid down by Mohammed. Even 2 pages of islamic history will show lot of wars to spread Islam or maintain islam or civil wars within Islam

> but antagonising the faction who are that radical is only going to prolong the struggle.

You admit jihadists are 'that radical' - so radical in fact is a track record of mass murders, plane bombings, assasinations, and so on. So they have to be stopped in their track, escpecially when jihadists are really weak militarily. In the 1930s, you would have said 'we should not antagonize that radical faction Nazis' Appeasing Islamofascists will only feed their aggression
