Right of dissentReader comment on item: From the Halls of Academia Submitted by miriam sherman (United States), Dec 29, 2002 at 09:33 Foner and Gilmore's statement"In equating opposition to government policies with hatred of our country, Pipes displays a deep hostility to the essence of a democratic polity: the right to dissent. " is perfect example of the verbal manipulation, the spin, that these two "employees" staffing our universities put on material conveyed to students. I don't think Foner and Gilmore really hear or listen to themselves! If they could, they would see how they transmit their personal views and influence immature minds. Pipes is, I think encouraging the right to dissent, and to receive more than just certain prejudicial views of professors. THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT to our children. Their job, what we pay them for is to present data, encourage discussion, teach critical analysis and thinking no matter where that leads.
