Evasion as UsualReader comment on item: From the Halls of Academia Submitted by Neil Abramson (United States), Dec 28, 2002 at 16:54 Rather than respond to your basic point -- of facilitating an open and fair dialogue -- Gilmore and Foner come to the counter attackby reminding us that dissent is a right in a free society. This comes as a great shock!! They are owed a debt of gratitude for restating the obvious; now that the lesson in the American Constitution is over, why don't they explain why they are predisposed to to always putting the blame on this country? The constant rhetoric among this type that always is offered, regardless of the place, country, or event at issue. The blame is always placed on the US. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, terrorism, repressive regimes and God knows else -- it doesn't matter what we do, we do not do enough in their eyes. Their position reeks with a rather smug hubris. Where exactly is this model state they yearn for? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
